Overview
Pollen from slender/woollyfruit sedge (Carex lasiocarpa, Cyperaceae).
Sedge pollen is deceptive. It is a pseudomonad - three conjoined, rudimentary pollen grains masquerading as a single grain. It also has poroids - indistinct apertures without a clear margin.
Technical description of Carex pollen, from PalDat (Halbritter, 2016): : medium-sized heteropolar tetrads/pseudomonads, pear-shaped or irregular, circular or irregular in polar view, poroidate, with a scabrate/microechinate/microverrucate exine.
This model is part of the 3D Pollen Project.
